We have already had 2 very successful events. One of which we raised
money and the other was just strictly based on participation from our blog
viewers. At Gifts of Gabi's Grace our number one priority is to always
Remember Gabi! In doing so we want to do things for critically ill children
as well as their families. It is so easy to get wrapped up in our own lives, that
to take just a few minutes to help others sometimes is beyond us. Well, here
you have taken the first step by reading about us and what we do. Now the
rest is in your hands. Here are just a couple of things that we have done with
the generous donations we have received thus far.
1st Annual Santa's Little Helpers
This was our first event and it was absolutely amazing the amount of
people who wanted to help. It was such a success and it is all because of
the wonderful people who were involved! We have some very special friends
that we met when we were in the hospital with Gabi, the Gudde Family;
Matt and Megan and their 3 beautiful girls Abigail, Madison, and Isabella .
Their precious Bella had been in and out of the hospital with many health
issues as well as a congential heart defect. They have also started a
foundation, Miracles Happen Ministries. Right now they do not have a
web site, but they do have a blog. Bella has been blessed with her life
and she continues to fight everyday and everyday she continues to get
better. To learn more about Bella and Miracles Happen Ministries go to
http://isabellagudde.blogspot.com Megan and I wanted to do something
special for the children in the PICU at Childrens Mercy Hospital in Kansas City,
MO. We decided we wanted to stuff stockings. We ended up stuffing 23 stockings
completely filled to the top with toys, books, games, jewelry, crafts,
ornaments, gift cards, and lots of candy! We also had baked goods
donated from our family and friends for the nurses and doctors. It was
incredible to go to the hospital and deliver such wonderful things to these
sick children. Unfortunately we were unable to hand deliver due to
confidentiality, but the nurses said the children and their families loved the
stockings. This was the first successful event and we have already started
making plans for next year!
1st Annual Balloons for Gabi
This event was something that everyone could participate in from anywhere
in the country, or around the world for that matter. All it took was the
purchase of a hot pink balloon. You may wonder why hot pink, well that
was and always will be Gabi's signature color! Anyways we wanted people
to celebrate Gabi's first birthday with us. Obviously we weren't going to
have a party, but we did have a balloon release and a couple of cakes. We
encouraged our friends, family, and blog viewers to join us.
On January 12, 2008 at 12pm central standard time, we released our hot
pink balloons. Everyone who participated attached a little note
encouraging whoever finds the note to check out Gabi's story on our blog.
We also asked those who participated to take pictures of their balloons.
We cannot tell you how heart warming it was to receive so many photos
from people we knew and even some we didn't. Gabi has touched so
many lives and this was a day for all of us to reflect how just how
special she was and will always be to us! We have big plans for the
future and this will be an event that will always start off our new year!
